Paul Brown

MA CANDIDATE, CLINICAL INTERN

Paul Brown is a Clinical Intern with over 20 years of experience in the social work field. He brings deep compassion, lived experience, and practical tools to his work with individuals navigating mental health challenges and relationship difficulties. As a mediator, Paul has supported clients through high-conflict family situations and child welfare cases and has provided conflict coaching to individuals and families during complex transitions.

In addition to his clinical work, Paul spent nearly a decade as a volunteer firefighter, giving him a grounded understanding of crisis response and the unique mental health challenges faced by First Responders. As a father of two boys and someone who has navigated co-parenting after separation, Paul offers a relatable and empathetic perspective on the realities of parenting.

Paul is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. His person-centered approach is rooted in the belief that each person is the expert in their own life. Together, you will work collaboratively to identify strengths, clarify goals, and build meaningful change using evidence-based practices such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness.

Outside the therapy room, Paul has been a dedicated member of the Peterborough hockey community for over a decade—as a coach, trainer, mentor, and executive. He is also a former world champion athlete whose own journey through injury and recovery has shaped his understanding of the pressures athletes and their families face, and the resilience required to move forward.
